Area 13 were
formed in 2016 in Cairns, Australia, by bassist Paul Southwell & drummer
Julian Cliffe. The band soon recruited guitarist/singer Kev Boorman. They went
on to recruit guitarist/singers JP and Rob Midgley.
Soon
after their formation the band began gigging 2/3 gigs per week in Queensland.
The band had a common focus of creating solid original music
In 2018, the band went into the studios to record their first original album ‘Parachutes For
Puppets’ which was released to critical acclaim in 2018. The following year
they went on to record their second album ‘Classified’ again, released to
critical acclaim later that year.

With the
onset of the Covid 19 pandemic the band could no longer tour and promote the
Classified album. In 2021, the band recorded an original song to be added to the Northern Exposure 2021 compilation album, showcasing the musical talent from Far North Queensland, Australia.
